Search Engine Optimization: Do’s and Don’ts

Some obvious website do’s. So obvious that lots of people still don’t do it.

Do’s

  • Content is king! Create relevant and useful content, particularly for your homepage.
  • Update your content frequently
  • Better have 100 short pages than 10 long pages. Make sure your pages have a minumum of 200 words though.
  • Use keywords in the page title, headings, first paragraph and links.
  • Keep your web page as small as possible
  • Create unique titles and meta description for every single page
  • Put your javascrip code in a file outside your page, your page will load faster
  • Same with your css file, link them to your page
  • Link each page from your homepage and/or sitemap page
  • Use <a href> VS javascript link

Dont’s

  • Don’t use page redirects
  • Don’t repeat your keywords over and over
  • Dont’ use hidden text
  • Don’t use too small text size
  • Don’t use hidden image links like 1x1 pixel image
  • Don’t use frames
  • Avoid Flash
  • Don’t use “click here” as the text for your links
